A collection of rocks from Western Australia

[in preparation]

Western Australia has some peculiar, unique and amazing rocks. This post is to highlight a selection of some of the stand-out ones I have had the fortune to encounter over the last 7 years of travelling and geologising.

1. The Jack Hills area — The world's oldest mineral / Australia's oldest rock

2. Oxide horizons from Coobina, Windimurra

3. Murchison Mineral Field banded iron formation

4. Micas of the Murchison, including the Orbicular Granite

5. The Archean Komatiites and basalts

6. Alteration, exhumation and oxidation — Painted Rocks
